Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze talked about personnel and structural reforms that are being conducted in the agency at a press conference on Nov.29.

According to Kapanadze, the organizational structure of the General Staff will be changed from 2014.

"Currently, I am working on coming up with candidates for deputies. After my presentaion, they will be appointed by the defence minister. Our cooperation with the relevant committees of the parliament is being intensified. The prime minister shows interest in this issue and we always have exchange of views with him," he said.

According to Kapanadze, the Armed Forces is a living organism. A certain contingent ends contract service, and there is need to recruit new people.

"It's time to go to a new organizational structure form 2014. Primarily, this implies the creation of the Eastern and Western Operational Command. Moreover, there will be several separate units that were scattered in the previous structure. We will concentrate them, as under the conditions of few resources it is better to centralize their training and management. Accordingly, there will be several combat support units that will be directly subordinated to the General Staff. Thus, we will have certain changes but they will not be extreme. The structure will be subordinated to a robust military logic," the head of the General Staff said.
