Azerbaijan, Switzerland ink visa simplification deal (PHOTO)

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Head of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Didier Burkhalter signed two agreements on simplification of registration and readmission of persons residing without permission, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service said Oct. 10.

After the ratification of the agreements, a visa-free entry and exit for persons, who have diplomatic and service passports, will be ensured between the two countries and visa obtaining process will be facilitated for the persons from other categories.

The agreements were signed after a meeting between Elmar Mammadyarov and Didier Burkhalter as part of the Azerbaijani minister’s official visit to Switzerland.

During the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, and noted the existence of an active political dialogue between the two countries.

It was also noted that the visit will create favorable conditions for a comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation. They highlighted the successful activity of more than 70 Swiss companies in Azerbaijan and the activity of SOCAR (Azerbaijan’s state oil company) in Switzerland.

It was also noted during the meeting that Swiss companies are interested in implementation of transportation projects, in particular, railway projects in Azerbaijan.

The sides also touched upon the cooperation in vocational education and noted the importance of exchanging experience in this sphere, and discussed international and regional issues of mutual interest.
