One of the engines of an Iranian Qeshm Air passenger plane flying to Tehran exploded as the aircraft was preparing for takeoff at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport.

Passengers boarded the Tehran-bound Airbus-300B4 aircraft at 4.30 p.m. (local time) and the aircraft was preparing to make its way onto the takeoff runway when its right engine suddenly exploded and caught on fire.

The pilot was able to stop the plane and ambulances and firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the accident. The explosion damaged the aircraft's landing gear.

All the passengers of the plane were urgently evacuated, according to the Turkish TV channel TRT Haber.

None of the passengers of the plane was injured as a result of emergency. The flight was sent to Tehran with delay.
