Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Kenya with residence in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Elman Abdullayev has said Azerbaijan and Kenya are determined to establish trade and business links, the Kenyan magazine Investment News (investmentnews.co.ke) reports.

“We are very much ready to explore Kenyan market for Azerbaijan goods,” Abdullayev said. “And of course, we plan to launch a joint initiative to boost trade between the two countries. We are working to increase our trade volumes on both sides.”

According to the report, Azerbaijani industrial products, which comply with the European standards, are known in many countries. Among those products are petrochemicals, food products and other industrial products.

The ambassador expressed hope that Baku will explore opportunities for making investments in Kenya, according to the article.

Abdullayev added that Azerbaijan needs raw materials and agricultural products produced in Kenya.

Kenya is a big producer of tea and coffee in the world. Its horticultural products, including flowers hold a significant part in its trade with other countries.

The ambassador said that among the activities planned by Azerbaijan and Kenya are visits of business communities to explore business opportunities.

“We plan to organize joint business events and missions,” he said.

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Kenya amounted to $617,790 in January-September 2016, which almost entirely accounts for import of goods from Kenya. Import operations increased by 14.3 times over the year.
