Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi on Saturday called on both Syria and Turkey to observe self-restraint and calm to settle dispute over downing of Turkish military plane in Syrian territorial waters, IRNA reported.

In a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on Saturday, Salehi hoped that the issue would be solved in light of prudence and dialogue.

He hoped that peace and stability would be maintained in the region in light of peaceful settlement of the issue.

Syria shot down Turkish F-4 fighter plane on Friday. According to the Syrian side, the fighter violated the airspace of the country, and Syria defined its belonging to Turkey after the plane was shot down.
