Pakistan President-elect Mamnoon Hussain, in a meeting with Iran’s General Consul in Karachi Mehdi Sobhani, called for expansion of ties with Iran, IRNA reported.

Pakistan President-elect Mamnoon Hussain, in a meeting with Iran's General Consul in Karachi Mehdi Sobhani, called for expansion of ties with Iran, IRNA reported.

He also felicitated the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr and beginning of President Hassan Rohani's tenure to him and Iranian people and government.

Sobhani talked to IRNA on Saturday about details of his meeting with Pakistan president-elect and said that Mamnoon Hussain, by referring to policy of new government concerning expansion of bilateral cooperation with neighboring states, called for development of friendly relations with Iran in all fields.

He went on to say that the meeting was held on Friday evening in the venue of residence of the president-elect in south of Pakistan.

President-elect Hussain expressed hope that in a near future he would have a visit to Tehran and talk with Iranian senior officials concerning promotion of bilateral ties.

In the meeting, Sobhani felicitated Eid-al-Fitr as well as election of Mamnoon Hussain as Pakistan new president and called for continuation of friendly and warm relations between the two countries.

In the presidential election on July 30, 2013, Mamnoon Hussain, candidate of ruling party, Muslim League-Nawaz Party, defeated his competitor from Tehreek Insaf Party Vajihoddin Ahmad.

He is the 12th president of Pakistan.
