The Iranian aviation company Mahan Air has increased the number of its direct Tehran-Almaty flights to two.

The second flight of the week is operational this week, IRIB news agency reported June 20.

The Thran-Almaty flights are on schedule for Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan. Despite losing its status as the capital to Astana in 1997, Almaty remains the major commercial and cultural centre of Kazakhstan, as well as its biggest population center.

On February 6, Iranian ambassador to Kazakhstan Mojtaba Damirchilu said Iran is ready to establish a visa-free regime with Kazakhstan in order to intensify the cooperation.
