Internet bandwidth in Iran rises by 14% in 3 months

Iran’s Internet service bandwidth reached 643 gigabytes per second (Gbps) by Sept. 21, 2016, the Iranian Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry reported.

The figure indicates a rise by 14 percent while compared to 564 Gbps in June 21, 2016.

Meanwhile the country’s domestic network bandwidth stood at 4000 Gbps by Sept. 21, unchanged from the previous 3-month period.

Iran’s intercity optical fiber network has been extended from 57,936 kilometers in June 21 to 59,773 kilometers in Sept. 21, according to the report.

The statistics of Iran's Internet Penetration Management Portal put the number of Internet users in Iran at 40 million, indicating that the Internet penetration rate of the country stood at 53.29 percent in June 2014.

About 11.07 million of the users in Iran have used GPRS connection to access the Internet over the same period.
