By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran's parliament speaker, Ali Larijani has urged Islamic states to take an initiative for ending Saudi Arabia's military operation in Yemen immediately.

In telephone conversations with parliament speakers of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Algeria, Larijani said that the Saudi military intervention in Yemen caused huge losses to the whole Islamic world.

He underlined the need for taking measures to stop the killing of people in Yemen, Iran's Fars news agency reported on April 14.

"Why an Islamic state should invade another Islamic state instead of confronting Israel and other enemies of Islam," he said to his Syrian counterpart.

The crisis in Yemen should be resolved through national dialogue, he stressed.

An international military operation kicked off on March 26 in Yemen against Iran-backed Houthis, with involvement of the armed forces of a number of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia.

The Shiite rebels have taken control of several cities and are assaulting the port of Aden, where Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi had been based before fleeing to Riyadh.

Iran denies accusations that it gives military assistance to the Shiite group.
