The delegates of 67th session of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan have adopted the resolution on the transit of energy carriers, the UN News Center reported.

The document is aimed at the development of international cooperation in ensuring reliable transportation of energy carriers on the international markets by pipelines and with use of other systems of deliveries. As coauthors of the document acted more than 70 states.

Introducing the resolution at a meeting of the UN General Assembly, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Aksoltan Atayeva thanked all the delegations for their support, said in the report.

The ambassador stressed that providing of universal access to energy is the basis for the creation of workplaces, security, control of climate change, food supply and, finally, for strengthening of economy and achievement of equality.

The purposes of the resolution are conformable with the initiative of UN Secretary General "Sustainable Energy for All".

One of the major problems in providing access to basic energy carries is an efficient and reliable transportation of energy between countries, regions and continents, said Atayeva.

"Turkmenistan, being one of the major suppliers of energy, and possessing the fourth-largest reserves of hydrocarbon resources in the world, has consistently advocated for the creation of the stable and reliable systems of international energy deliveries, development of schemes and patterns of interaction on the global energy markets, which are able to correspond to the contemporary realities," said the representative of Turkmenistan

In the adopted resolution the growing role of transport knots in ensuring of stable transportation of energy carriers on the international markets is noted.

In the resolution the delegates with satisfaction noted the proposal of the Government of Turkmenistan to convene in early 2014 the international expert meeting devoted to the implementation of solutions of the conference of high level on "Reliable and stable transit of energy carriers and its role in the providing a sustainable development and international cooperation" subject held in Ashkhabad on April 23, 2009.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players on the gas market in the Caspian region and Central Asia. At this stage, the users of Turkmen natural fuels are China, Iran and Russia. Turkmenistan ranks fourth place in the world for the reserves of natural gas is looking for new markets in Europe and South Asia.
