Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has confirmed that he intends to withdraw from politics after the elections to local bodies of power in 2014.

"I am sure that by that time I will have fulfilled my promises and leave a strong and efficient power in the country, both in the government and in the legislative branch," he said at a news conference on Thursday.

At the same time, the prime minister said he will not leave if the situation develops to a worst case scenario. "If we cannot fulfil our promises, if the situation is tense and ambiguous I'm not going anywhere and will be ready to take part in the elections," he said.

Ivanishvili noted that he intends to leave for the public sector and to control the power from there in order that the country's development will be determined by society and not the government.
