Vector in the Russian-Iranian relations changed not yesterday. The tendency in the deterioration of relations has been continuing for a long time, and lately it has accelerated, said Russian leading analyst on Iran, Vladimir Yevseyev.

"Russia does not start now to suddenly change the vector. Simply the tendency, which gained its strength, has accelerated," Yevseyev told Trend by telephone from Moscow.

On Tuesday Russian senior diplomatic source said that Russia will take a tougher position towards Iran and join any consensus to impose additional sanctions, Reuters reported. This statement was made after Tehran announced the expansion of nuclear works in spite of warnings from the UN.

"If there is consensus on sanctions against Iran, we will not stay aside," said Russian diplomatic source, who asked not to name it in connection with the delicacy of the situation. Recently Iranian president mentioned the desire to build ten more plants for the production of nuclear fuel, stressing that these plans are not bluff.

After this turning point in the negotiations, the IAEA adopted a resolution on Friday condemning the unilateral actions by Tehran. It is noteworthy that the representatives of the Six negotiators, including Russia and China, which were considered as opponents of any sanctions, unanimously supported the document.

Russia tried to keep partnership with Iran, but worsening relations resulted from "large-scale secret activities of Iran", said Yevseyev, senior fellow at the Center for International Security at the Institute for World Economy and International Relations of Russian Academy of Sciences.

Firstly, Iran announced that it creates uranium enrichment facility near the city of Qom. Later, there were reports on the construction of 10 more facilities, of which five are under construction now. If Iran announced the start of construction, it is likely that construction has already begun, Yevseyev said.

According to him, the situation worsened due to the fact that the construction of such facilities can not begin spontaneously, all should be prepared. Moreover, all facilities are supposed to be built in the mountains, where the construction is not easy.
"Therefore, Iran had not one, but six secret facilities, said Yevseyev. In case of such secret activities by Iran, the cooperation can not be topic".

According to him, Russia has always been hoping for exclusive rights to first receive information, and eventually learned about the construction of the latter. This was too much.
