Regional development is priority direction for Azerbaijan President Aliyev

The regional development is a priority direction for Azerbaijan and we would like to see the Japanese companies in this process, Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyev stated in his remarks to the Azerbaijani-Japanese economic forum in Tokyo, Trend reports.

The head of state said that the Japanese companies put hundred million dollars in the energy sector of Azerbaijan, while good opportunities exist in the non-oil sector. New technologies should be applied in the development of the non-oil sector. Wed like to attract the Japan companies to the application of such technologies, the President underlined.

Touching upon the implementation of big investment programs in 2006 in agriculture, education, and health, Aliyev called the Japanese companies to take part in these projects. He recalled the Japanese governments assistance in different sphere and urged the necessity for more active development of such cooperation.

Attending the forum were around 30 representatives from different spheres of Azerbaijan economy and 100 Japanese companies.

The Azerbaijani President has recently held meeting with the Japanese Emperor Akihito and the President of the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation, Sadako Ogata.
