ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 25. Over the past three years, the volume of export transportation from Kazakhstan to Afghanistan has been growing steadily, Trend reports, citing the government of Kazakhstan.
In 2023, the volume of transportation by rail amounted to 2.7 million tons, of which 1.5 million tons were flour and grain. This is 14 percent more than in 2021.
According to the government, the forecast for the coming years is an increase in exports by 40 percent. At the same time, by 2030, traffic growth is expected to triple.
Furthermore, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan in 2023 amounted to $636.5 million. The structure of trade turnover is dominated by Kazakh exports to Afghanistan - $615.3 million. At the same time, imports of Afghan goods to Kazakhstan amounted to $21.2 million.
Meanwhile, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national company) amounted to 257.3 million tons from January through December 2023, which is 5 million tons higher than in 2022.
Exports increased by 9 percent to 85.8 million tons.
The operational freight turnover of Kazakhstan Railways reached 269 billion t-km from January through December 2023. This is 7 percent more than in 2022. Transit transportation in containers amounted to 1.028 million TEU, which is 13.5 percent more than the same period last year.
