ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 25. Kazakhstan intends to utilize the capacity of the Beineu terminal to increase the volume of supplies of Kazakh grain and flour to Afghanistan, Trend reports.
This topic was discussed during the meeting of the Deputy Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Afghanistan, Serik Zhumangarin and Abdul Ghani Baradar.
"Today, Kazakhstan is one of the ten main trading partners of Afghanistan. Your country traditionally imports Kazakh grain and flour. I can assure you that Kazakhstan has been and will remain a reliable supplier of these goods to the Afghan market," Zhumangarin said.
The Beineu terminal is located on the territory of the Mangystau region, with direct access to the Kazakh-Turkmen border. The terminal has all the necessary production infrastructure. It is capable of performing the functions of an overland transshipment storage terminal for further transportation of products for export.
The terminal's capacity allows it to ship up to 100,000 tons of grain, 12,000 tons of flour, and up to 3,000 tons of compound feed per month.
Along with this, Kazakhstan has the opportunity to transit Chinese cargo in the direction of South Asia: its own terminal on the territory of the Dry Port in Xi’an, which today consolidates 40 percent of all container trains traveling in the direction of Kazakhstan from China.
In addition, there is a Kazakh-Chinese terminal in the port of Lianyungang, where two container trains depart daily in the direction of Kazakhstan.
Thus, if trans-Afghan railways are built, cargo will go from China through Kazakhstan not only to the west but also through Afghanistan in the direction of Pakistan and India.
To date, 13 international transport corridors have been formed and are in operation in Kazakhstan, including 5 railways and 8 roads.
Furthermore, about $30 billion has been invested in the transport and logistics infrastructure of Kazakhstan over the past 10 years.
Moreover, in the next five years, at least 40 billion euros will be needed to implement major infrastructure projects in the field of transportation in Kazakhstan.
