К.Zarbaliyeva / The Medical Commission will assess if the doctor and member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Alaskar Ismaylov arrested in the Sadarak region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan is mentally ill, Elchin Behbudov, the Chairman of the Anti-Torture Committee told Trend Agency.
Behbudov met with Ismaylov in the Republican Mental Hospital 1 on 3 October.
NAR's mental hospital diagnosed Ismaylov, 70, as a paranoid schizophrenic.
Hospital management told Ismaylov's relatives that they may have him discharged from the hospital.
"Ismaylov was taken by force by policemen to the hospital. Behbudov appealed to the Interior Ministry to investigate whether the policemen used excessive force against Ismaylov.
Ismaylov was arrested on 20 September 2007. He claimed that he was arrested due to political reasons.
