Azerbaijani Court Sentences Former Police Officer due to Bribery

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 November / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The Azerbaijani court sentenced a former police officer, which was charged of bribery.

The court sentenced Rafael Nazarov, a former chief of the Goranboy Region Police Office's Counter Drug Department, to four-year and six-month imprisonment.

Nazarov detained residents of Oguz, Gazakh and Tovuz Regions, who were suspected of drug crime, and took them to the Goranboy Region Police Office in September 1998.

The abovementioned people were confronted at the office. He made the people, who refused to be confronted, have a sex with one another. He kept these people illegally in prison within seven or eight days.

A lawsuit was filed on the former police officer with the charge of bribery, illegal imprisonment and exceeding his authority and the court cancelled the case on the last two accusations.
