All prisoners passed medical examination in Azerbaijan, Rafael Mehdiyev, Medical Department Head of the Justice Ministry told Trend today.
The purpose of medical examination of prisoners, kept in penitentiary facility 13, is to identify diseases at an early stage and to provide their treatment. During the examination special attention is paid to the timely diagnosis of tuberculosis, Mehdiyev said.
Penitentiary facility 13 has been equipped with necessary medical equipment and means for laboratory examination to enable to reveal diseases at an early stage, because other punishment places lack facilities for medical examination.
Blood tests (biochemical, general, the presence of infection), X-ray, cardiology, ultrasound, therapeutic, neurological, dermatological and venereal tests were conducted during the examination.
The prisoners, who were not found seriously ill, are treated in the medical stations of the penitentiary facility, while prisoners suffering from serious illnesses in special hospitals.
Leading specialists of the Justice Ministry and medical institutions were drawn to examination and treatment of prisoners because of limited opportunities of the Penitentiary Service, Mehdiyev said.
Such activities are carried out regularly in other penitentiary facilities. Medical examination will also be held in penitentiary facility 17 March 15, Mehdiyev said.
