Hajigabul Region Court Rejects Lawsuit of Ranjbarli Village’s Residents

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The trial regarding the lawsuit of the residents of Azerbaijani Ranjbarli village against the BP company, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, and State Land and Cartography Committee was completed at Hajigabul Region Court on 25 June.

The chairman of the League for Protection of Labour Rights, Sahib Mammadov, reported to Trend that the representative of the State Land and Cartography Committee had not appeared in the court. The court listened to the sides and decided not to allow the lawsuit. The residents of Ranjbarli will appeal against the court's decision, Mammadov noted.

The residents of Ranjbarli village say that BP company, the operator of Baku-Supsa and Baku-Novorossiysk pipelines intended to transportation of Caspian Sea oil in western and northern directions, restricted the right to use of land that is a property of 7,200 people for 10 years, as a pipeline lies through the territory. The landowners demand compensation for the land, damage, and lost benefit.

The trial was held on the basis of the lawsuits of 15 landowners. The number of victims exceeds 7,200.
