Discussions on Directions of Indicative Program for 2008 between Azerbaijan and European Commission

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Government of Azerbaijan began discussions with the European Commission in regard to the 2008 indicative program within the European Neighborhood Policy, reported Rufat Mammadov the Executive Director of the European Commission's Coordinating Bureau on Technical Assistance Programs (TACIS) to Azerbaijan, on 26 December.

At present the two fields, justice and agrarian sector, are being considered. One of them will be included in the Action Program and the second one will be financed within 2008 Action Plan, Mammadov stated.

According to the first direction, the support will be directed towards supporting of the penal system, regional courts, Academy of Justice and harmonization of the national legislation with the European standards. The priorities of the second sector have not been concretized yet. Mammadov said that the key efforts will be made in the agriculture to assist the Azerbaijanis, for joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The experts of the European Commission are expected to arrive in Baku in January 2008, to devise the action program .The ENP's budget indicated for the Azerbaijan for 2007-2010, totals €92mln.
