Azerbaijan occupies second place in Georgian foreign trade turnover

Azerbaijan with the index of $296.1 million in seven months holds the second place in the Georgian foreign trade, the state statistics department reported

This index is by 39.9 percent less compared to the index for the same period in 2008, the department said.

Turkey is the largest trading partner of Georgia and Turkey's part in the foreign trade turnover fell by 16.7 percent to $589.8 million.

According to the department, the index of the Georgian foreign trade turnover continues to decline. Georgian foreign trade turnover was $2.996 million in January to July. This index is 37.4 percent less than similar period of 2008, statistical department said. Third place is occupied by Ukraine, with which foreign trade turnover fell by 40.7 percent ($272.7 million).

Export operations declined by 35.5 percent ($617.3 million), import - by 37.8 percent ($2.378.2 million) in January to July.

Negative trade balance hits $1, 761, 4 million in January to July. This index is by 38.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2008. Georgia has red balance with 98 countries. Black trade balance hits $94.3 million with 22 countries.

Foreign trade turnover of Georgia with the EU countries decreased by 36.6 percent ($833.6 million), including exports fell by 42.9 percent (127 million), imports - by 35.4 percent ($706.7 million).

Foreign trade turnover with CIS countries decreased by 42 percent ($898.4 million), including exports amounted to $222.2 million (28 percent), imports - $676.2 million (45.5 percent).
