BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. In Tbilisi, Georgia, President Salome Zourabichvili exercised her civic duty by casting her vote at a polling station situated within the premises of the 67th school, Trend reports.
“I cast my vote for the new Georgia, a vision I embraced when I arrived in this country 22 years ago and for which my forebears fervently hoped. Victory is inevitable, and Georgia will emerge triumphant,” she said.
To note, polling stations in Georgia commenced at 08:00 local time and will conclude at 20:00.
A total of 3,508,294 people can vote, including 95,910 abroad. For these legislative elections, 3,111 voting stations were set up, including a record 67 abroad. Georgians abroad can vote in 53 cities in 42 countries.
A total of 64 international and 102 local organizations will be keeping a close eye on the voting process.
This year, a proportional system based on party lists will exclusively elect members of parliament. To win seats in parliament, parties must win at least five percent of the vote.
All in all, there are 18 parties in the race, with five of them joining forces to form coalitions.
The parliamentary elections will also introduce the electronic voting system for the first time. Thanks to modern technology, more than 90 percent of ballots are expected to be counted and the results published within an hour after the polls close.
