BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is voting in parliamentary elections, Trend reports, Trend reports.

“Today, we must reiterate that these elections are highly principled and definitive, akin to a referendum. Elections like those of 2012, wherein the trajectory of the nation's development must once more be determined. This referendum contrasts violence with peace, unethical propaganda with traditional values, and the past with the nation's promising future," he stated.

To note, polling stations in Georgia commenced at 08:00 local time and will conclude at 20:00.

A total of 3,508,294 people can vote, including 95,910 abroad. For these legislative elections, 3,111 voting stations were set up, including a record 67 abroad. Georgians abroad can vote in 53 cities in 42 countries, and there will be intensive observation of the voting process by 64 foreign and 102 local groups overall.

This year, a proportional system based on party lists will exclusively elect members of parliament. To win seats in parliament, parties must win at least five percent of the vote.

All in all, there are 18 parties in the race, with five of them joining forces to form coalitions.

The parliamentary elections will also introduce the electronic voting system for the first time. Thanks to modern technology, more than 90 percent of ballots are expected to be counted and the results published within an hour after the polls close.
