DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 25. A roadmap aimed at enhancing housing construction and resilience to natural disasters has been adopted in Tajikistan, Trend reports.
According to the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CESCD), the decision follows a consultative seminar focused on improving understanding of disaster risks. This initiative is part of the ongoing National Disaster Risk Management Project, backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
As part of this project, technical assistance has been developed to enhance awareness of disaster risks and resilience. A study was conducted on standards for disaster-resilient infrastructure, particularly focusing on the earthquake resistance of residential buildings in the Rasht Valley region.
The seminar featured participation from officials of the CESCD, the Committee on Construction and Architecture, the State Committee on Land Management and Geodesy, the Academy of Sciences, and various accredited international organizations.
The National Disaster Risk Management Project is being implemented by the CESCD and aims to support the Government of Tajikistan in reducing economic losses from natural hazards. Additionally, it seeks to integrate disaster risk management (DRM) into development planning. The project aligns with the National Development Strategy (2016-2030) and the Midterm Development Program (2016-2020).
