Georgian CEC announces voter turnout for nation's parliamentary election as of 15:00

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. The voter turnout for the parliamentary election in Georgia as of 15:00 (GMT +4) according to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the country was 41.62 percent, and 1,454,837 voters went to polling stations, Trend reports.

According to the CEC, the regional distribution of the number of voters is as follows: Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti — 135,863; Tbilisi — 437,426; Kakheti — 125,558; Mtskheta-Mtianeti — 38,073; Kvemo Kartli — 142 851; Shida Kartli — 98,338; Samtskhe-Javakheti — 62 339; Racha-Lechkhumi – 15 765; Imereti — 220 771; Guria — 45 010; and Adjara — 13,2843.

To note, polling stations in Georgia commenced at 08:00 and will conclude at 20:00.

A total of 3,508,294 people can vote, including 95,910 abroad. For this legislative election, 3,111 voting stations were set up, including a record 67 abroad. Georgians abroad can vote in 53 cities in 42 countries.

The voting process will be closely monitored by 102 local and 64 international organizations.

This year, a proportional system based on party lists will exclusively elect members of parliament. To win seats in parliament, parties must win at least five percent of the vote.

All in all, there are 18 parties in the race, with five of them joining forces to form coalitions.

The parliamentary election will also introduce the electronic voting system for the first time. Thanks to modern technology, more than 90 percent of ballots are expected to be counted and the results published within an hour after the polls close.
