BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. Polling stations open for Georgian parliamentary election, Trend reports.

Polling stations in Georgia opened at 8:00 a.m. local time and will close at 8:00 p.m.

A total of 3,508,294 citizens are eligible to vote, including 95,910 overseas. For this parliamentary election, 3,111 polling stations have been set up, including a record 67 stations abroad. Georgians outside the country can cast their ballots in 53 cities across 42 countries.

The election process will be monitored by 64 international and 102 local organizations.

This year marks the first time members of parliament will be elected solely through a proportional system, based on party lists, moving away from the previous mixed system. To gain seats in parliament, parties must win at least 5% of the vote.

A total of 18 parties are participating, with five having formed coalitions.

For the first time, parliamentary election will also utilize an electronic voting system. Thanks to modern technology, over 90% of ballots are expected to be counted and results released within an hour of polling stations closing.
