BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. A report detailing human rights violations in France's overseas territories has been presented, Trend reports.

The report prepared by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), delineates infringements of human rights, freedom of speech and expression, and voting rights in these regions, along with the obstacles impeding their expression.

During a press conference to unveil the report, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group, Abbas Abbasov, highlighted the negative impact of France's colonial policies on local cultures. He noted that the dominance of French in the education system jeopardizes the conservation of indigenous languages.

The conference also stressed that France's nuclear testing and pesticide use in overseas territories contribute to environmental pollution, adversely affecting the health of local populations.

Representatives from the French colonies of Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Mayotte, who took the stage at the event, laid their cards on the table regarding the uphill battles they face in their regions.

They asserted that French colonial policies, economic practices, cultural imposition, and environmental interventions exacerbate socio-environmental issues, leading to deforestation, water shortages, and significant problems in education, healthcare, culture, and infrastructure.
