BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 21. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has released a new report on the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 2.0), Aneta Nikolova, an environmental affairs officer at UNESCAP, said at a press conference as part of the COP29 in Baku, Trend reports.

"Last Friday, we released a report focusing on solutions derived from previous Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), or what we call NDC 2.0.

The report emphasizes the energy transition, particularly increasing the share of renewable energy, creating jobs in the sector, and phasing out fossil fuels and their subsidies. It also highlights integrated approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation, aligning with the new adaptation financing mechanism under Article 6.8. This mechanism, initiated by the African Development Bank, aims to be implemented in our region to fund adaptation projects and contribute to global adaptation goals," she added.

Nikolova also noted the creation of a portal showcasing a wide range of projects and opportunities for small-scale, sustainable climate initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Additionally, last week we hosted several ministerial dialogues on the energy transition, and just yesterday, we held a discussion on sustainable transport with our colleagues from the UN regional commissions worldwide," she added.
