BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. The Georgian Dream is the only political force capable of preserving peace in the country, Mayor of Tbilisi, Secretary General of the Georgian Dream Kakha Kaladze said, Trend reports.
He made the remark during the voting at the third election of the Georgian parliamentary elections in the capital Tbilisi's Saburtalo area.
“In the present circumstances, the paramount objective is to maintain peace; devoid of peace, nothing holds significance. Today, our nation requires peace more than ever for the sustenance of economic development, advancement, and revitalization. The sole political entity in the nation capable of maintaining peace is Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia,” he said.
To note, polling stations in Georgia commenced at 08:00 local time and will conclude at 20:00.
A total of 3,508,294 people can vote, including 95,910 abroad. For these legislative elections, 3,111 voting stations were set up, including a record 67 abroad. Georgians abroad can vote in 53 cities in 42 countries.
The voting process will be closely monitored by 102 local and 64 international organizations.
This year, a proportional system based on party lists will exclusively elect members of parliament. To win seats in parliament, parties must win at least five percent of the vote.
All in all, there are 18 parties in the race, with five of them joining forces to form coalitions.
The parliamentary elections will also introduce the electronic voting system for the first time. Thanks to modern technology, more than 90 percent of ballots are expected to be counted and the results published within an hour after the polls close.
