Ban on sale of mineral water in Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.29 / / Trend /

The State Consumer market Control Department under the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry revealed out the mineral water branded "Slavyanka No.1" with the same composition but with the words "medical mineral water" or "natural spring water", in addition the release date is indicated with easily erodible inscription and tare was packaged with different plugs, the committee said on Aug.29.

Regarding it, the committee and the state antimonopoly service held a joint study in the shop belonging to N. Ibrahimov and located Suleyman Vazirov Street, 33, in the Khatai district of Baku, to protect the consumer rights and prevent unfair competition and verify the existence of counterfeit products on the market. The audit revealed that the shop has only one water reservoir from which the water is bottling as "medical mineral" and "spring" in plastic and glass bottles.

The packaging does not have hygiene certificates and compliance. The car which was used to deliver water from Gadabay to Baku does not have sanitary passports for food transport and ready products were stored outdoors, under the sunlight, before bottling.

The laboratory analysis found that the water, which was in reservoir and ready for bottling does not meet current sanitary and bacteriological standards; number of colon bacillus in the content exceed the norm by 2-8 times and generally considered unfit for human consumption.

At present, the relevant agencies take measures to halt the sale of this product and withdraw  from commercial facilities.
