Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has signed a decree to create a Labor and Social Protection Ministry on the basis of the abolished Welfare Ministry.

Bekmurat Shamyradov, who previously headed the Welfare Ministry, was appointed the Labor and Social Protection Minister. The decree also approved the position and structure of the Ministry's Central Apparatus, which together with the Justice Ministry should prepare and submit to the Cabinet a bill on changes and additions to the legislation.

The document reads that the reformation of this ministry is linked with the need for "further stable development of the state's economy, streamlining of the issues related to the labor and job security of the population and implementation of labor rights and guarantees, as well as improving social security."

Moreover, the Turkmen Economy and Development Ministry's functions related to labor relations and occupational safety were assigned to the new ministry. All the self-supporting labor exchanges under the regional administrations and Ashgabat City Hall are transferred to the new ministry's balance in the prescribed manner.
