Kazakh and Japanese ministries agree to cooperate in nuclear and petrochemical spheres

The Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry agreed to cooperate, Kazinform reported.

The parties signed six bilateral documents on cooperation, including a memorandum on economic cooperation, which envisages 40 joint projects in nuclear and petrochemical spheres, mining and metallurgical complex, and in the field of new technologies within the meeting of Kazakh minister Asset Issekeshev and Japanese Minister Yukio Edano on Tuesday.

In particular, Japanese Sumitomo Corporation and Kazakh Atomic Company Kazatomprom agreed to create a joint venture on mining and processing of rare earth metals and nuclear waste management.

Industry and New Technologies Minister Issekeshev said that Kazakhstan has great interest for cooperation with Japan in the field of industry, investment, energy efficiency and development of new technologies and plans to attract Japanese technologies to these spheres.
