Harvest campaign starts in Turkmenistan

The harvest campaign starts in Turkmenistan today. About 860,000 hectares of land have been allotted for food grain. It is planned to collect 1.6 million tons of grain in 2012, the Turkmen official source said today.

In particular, it is planned to collect 450,000 tons in Akhal region, 380,000 tons in Mary, 350,000 tons in Lebap, 300,000 tons in Dashoguz and 120,000 tons in Balkan region.

This issue was listed on the agenda of the government's last meeting.

"The primary task is to gather wheat quickly and without loss," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported today.

About 2,000 combine harvesters will be used in harvest campaign. Approximately 6,000 trucks will transport wheat to the receiving points and elevators. Each of 158 receiving stations has been equipped with laboratories.

The state commission for organized harvest of cereals was established in Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan was among the countries exporting wheat in 2010.
