Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept 12 /Trend A.Akhundov/

More than 1,500 hectares of illegally occupied land have returned to the ownership of municipalities as a result of investigations conducted in the first half of the year, head of the center for work with municipalities under the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan Mehdi Salimzade told reporters.

"It is the land sold by illegal decisions of municipalities" Salimzade said.

He added that the investigation is conducted with regard to the situation with the apartment blocks on land belonging to State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

"These areas were inhabited by illegal decisions of municipalities and former employees of SOCAR. The decisions are canceled today and cease to be effective, and of course, the decision to continue the purchase and sale of land in these areas will not be accepted," Salimzade said.
