China and Afghanistan have agreed to expand economic cooperation following the visit of the Afghan delegation to China, Deputy Minister of Public Works of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Wahid told Trend on Thursday.
According to him, the main topics of discussion were the purchase of equipment by Afghanistan for the construction of roads and the construction of the railway to Central Asia through Afghanistan.
"We discussed these issues with China at the state level , and held negotiations with some private companies," Wahid said.
According to him, the investment of Chinese private companies in Afghanistan on the principle of Construction Management Transfer, as well as on the basis of partnership were discussed.
"It is planned that the investments will be made in projects which are planned or being implemented in Afghanistan on construction of roads and railways," Wahid said.
According to him, if the investment is carried out on the principle of Construction Management Transfer, Chinese private companies will be interested in it.
At the same time, according to the Deputy Minister, China is interested in early implementation of the project on railway which connects China with Iran and countries of the Persian Gulf through Afghanistan.
"Currently some parts of the railway that connects China and Afghanistan through Tajikistan are not completed, work in underway," he said.
According to Wahid, after completion of works, this railway will connect China not only with Tajikistan, but also it will open way to other countries of Central Asia.
"China is very interested in implementation of this project, as well as Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan," he stressed.
Wahid expressed hope that the work on the remained part of the railway project will start soon.
" Despite the fact that implementation of the project will take a lot of time, not only Afghanistan interested in it, but all the region will benefit from the project," he said.
