BTK railway to increase tourist flow to Turkey, says ministry

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway will increase the tourism potential of Turkey and in particular, the Kars Province, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend Nov. 27.

The ministry said the BTK railway will mainly contribute to the growth of tourist flow from Georgia, Azerbaijan, as well as from Central Asia.

Despite the fact that Kars has a significant tourism potential, this province is mainly visited by local tourists, said the ministry.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, the Kars Province was visited by 63,315 tourists in nine months of 2017, and 2,071 of them were foreign citizens.

Turkey’s revenues from tourism increased by 37.6 percent in 3Q17, as compared to the same period of 2016, and amounted to $11.3 billion.
