Uzbekistan intends to launch production of two models of Ravon cars in Kyrgyzstan next year, Uzbek media reported.

"We expect that in January practical work will be launched to form a production site. Partners are Avtotsentr Estakada from the Kyrgyz side and GM Uzbekistan from the Uzbek side. We expect the first test models to be manufactured in late 2018," a source in the government of Uzbekistan told media.

The source said that currently the parties are consulting on the supply of equipment needed to launch new capacities.

Furthermore, GM Uzbekistan intends to take a dominant role in the automobile market of Kazakhstan through an alliance with the Kazakh Allure Group of Companies, and also to strengthen its position in the Russian market, including through the possible creation of an assembly plant near St. Petersburg.

GM Uzbekistan is a joint venture owned by Uzbek UzAvtosanoat (75 percent) and American General Motors (25 percent).

Currently, 10 models of cars under the brands of Chevrolet and Ravon are produced at three production sites of GM Uzbekistan.

Passenger cars of domestic production are assembled under the Chevrolet brand. For export, GM Uzbekistan products are sent under the trademark of Ravon.
