Uzbekistan and Georgia may open direct air flights, Uzbek media reported, referring to the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobahidze.

Kobahidze, summing up the results of his visit to Tashkent, noted serious prospects for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

"We had very interesting meetings with the chairmen of both houses of the Parliament, as well as with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, with whom we discussed specific issues of future cooperation. The topic was interparliamentary cooperation, as well as economic cooperation, which offers very serious opportunities," he said.

As for developing the trade and tourism cooperation, Kobahidze said, Uzbekistan and Georgia consider opening of the direct flights as an important issue.

"We think that there are very good prospects for deepening economic cooperation, and we will actively work on this issue together with the Georgian government," Kobahidze told journalists.

Uzbekistan exported goods worth $6 ,921 million to Georgia in 2017, while imported goods worth $64,156 million. The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Georgia in 2017 increased by around 20 percent.

Uzbekistan is interested in exporting cars, textile and electrical products to Georgia and reach the world market via Georgia.
