Meat price up in Kazakhstan, so does consumption

All types of meat and meat products in Kazakhstan have risen in price year-on-year, Trend reports citing Ranking.kz.

The largest increase was in the price of horse meat: by 10.5 percent year-on-year, to 1,745.5 tenge per kilogram in November this year. Next comes pork, with an annual price increase of 7 percent to 1,302.5 tenge per kilogram. Beef increased in price by 6.7 percent to 1,543.1 tenge per kilogram, and chicken price rose by 6.4 percent to 798 tenge per kilogram.

For the 3rd quarter of 2018, consumption of meat and meat products in the households of Kazakhstan increased by 1.6 percent compared to the previous quarter, to 19 kilogram per capita in July-September.

Among the regions, the highest consumption of meat and meat products in the 3rd quarter was in the Karaganda (22.3 kg per capita), Pavlodar (22 kg) and Almaty (21.8 kg) regions.

The Atyrau (23.9 kg), East Kazakhstan (23.4 kg) and Akmola (22.8 kg) regions are the leaders in terms of meat consumption in urban areas. The main meat eaters of rural areas live in the Almaty (22 kg), Karaganda (21.7 kg) and Mangistau (20.5 kg) regions.
