American Company to Launch Oil Transportation via Azerbaijan in April

Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 January / Trend corr S. Aliyev / Transportation of American ChevronTexaco company's oil via Azerbaijan is most likely to begin in April, a source at an oil and gas company operating in the region said on 24 January.

The American company signed a contract for transportation of the oil, which the company produces in Kazakhstan, by the tankers of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company . The contract envisages transportation of 2mln tons of oil a year via Azerbaijan.

The oil will be transported by Cross Caspian company, a part of stocks in which are owned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

Chevron is the operator of Kazakhstan's Tangiz field. Oil will be pumped from Tangiz via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline which is managed by BTC Co, as well as via railway, to the Georgian ports of Kulevi and Batumi.

The oil will be transported from the on-shore Tangiz field via railway to Kazakhstan's Aktau port in the Caspian Sea, and onwards it will be delivered to Baku in tankers. Then the oil will be delivered to Sangachal terminal (operated by BP), where entrance to BTC is located. Then the oil will be transported to the Georgian ports via railway.

The owner of the Georgian Black Sea Kulevi terminal is SOCAR, and Batumi - the Kazakhstan-Netherlands JV.
