Another Well in Shah Deniz Field to be Launched Next Year

Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 November / Trend corr. S.Aliyev/ ВР, technical operator of the Shah Deniz field, intends to lunch the fifth (the first drilled from producing platform) well next year, a source close to the project said.

The debit of the well will be the largest than that of other wells in the Shah Deniz. About 22mln cu m of gas per day is produced from the four wells in the field.

The total volume of gas production within the 1st stage of the development of the Shah Deniz gas and condensate field in Azerbaijan will total 180bln cu m.

Some 8.6bln cu m of gas per year is expected to be produced from Shah Deniz within Stage I. About 7.7bln cu m of gas is expected to be produced from the field in 2008.

The contract on development of off-shore Shah Deniz field was signed on 4 June 1996. The sides to the contract are ВР (operator - 25.5%), Statoil (25.5%), SOCAR (10%), LukAgip (10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%). The total gas volume in the field is assessed at 1.2trln cu m.

The gas is transported to Georgia and Turkey through the South-Caucasus gas pipeline. Azerbaijan also buys the gas.
