Decline in Turkey's gas consumption

In January -May 2009, Botas, Turkey's national pipeline company, imported around 14 billion cubic meters of gas compared to 11.53 billion cubic meters in January-May 2008, according to the Botas official website.

Around 1.2 billion cubic meters accounted for consumers and 2.8 billion cubic meters for liquefied gas.

Around 32.2 billion cubic meters of gas imported in 2008 accounted for natural gas and around 5.6 billion for liquefied gas.

In May, Turkey consumed over 2 million cubic meters of gas compared to 2.4 billion cubic meters in April. Over 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas were sent to electric power stations, 290 million cubic meters to consumers and 534 million cubic meters of gas to industrial enterprises. In January-May, Turkey consumed over 14.4 billion cubic meters of gas.

Turkey consumed 36 billion cubic meters of gas in 2008 compared to 35 billion cubic meters in 2007.
