BP to continue restoration work on oil field in Azerbaijan

During the year, BP will continue reconstruction work to eliminate the results of the gas release incident that had occurred last September on the Central Azeri, the Company reported. This field is part of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block operated by BP.

On September 17, BP suspended oil production on Central Azeri and evacuated staff, the platform installed on it due to detection of gas leakage into the sea near the platform. Also, for precaution was stopped production in the western section of the field, which was later restored.

The participants of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli development project are BP (operator-34.1367 percent), ChevronTexaco (10.2814 percent), SOCAR (10 percent), INPEX (10 percent), Statoil Hydro (8.5633 percent), ExxonMobil (8.006 percent), TPAO (6.75 percent), Devon Energy (5.6262 percent), Itochu (3.9205 percent), Delta Hess (2.7213 percent ). The amount of investments is about $20 billion.

Also, currently BP drills oil well on the West Azeri. During the year, there are plans to carry out and complete the drilling of water-pumping and oil wells in this section of the field.

Currently the Company is also working on drilling oil wells on East Azeri, which is expected to be finished in September. By the end of the year, there are plans to drill and complete additional water-pumping well.  

By the end of the year, it is planned to drill and complete oil well on Deep Water Gunashli and drill a new well, which is expected to be completed in 2010.
