Iran state gas firm sets new weekend holidays

The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is to modify their weekend holidays to increase the number of common working days with international firms.

Starting from August 21, NIGC is to set Fridays and Saturdays as the weekend days at the company headquarters and its branches, replacing the current weekends, which is Thursdays and Fridays, Press TV reported.

The move aims to improve contacts with foreign companies, as based on the usual norm respected in most Iranian companies.

Considering Thursdays and Fridays as weekend holidays, the common working days between Iranian and foreign companies are limited only to Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Some other departments at the Iranian Oil Ministry have already made a similar change to increase the number of common working days to four per week.

Articles 43 and 62 of the Iranian Labor Code stipulate that Friday is the weekly day of rest. However, many organizations take a half-day on Thursday as well, while government offices and public organizations in the Islamic Republic are closed on both Thursdays and Fridays.
