Georgian port of Poti reduces transportation of freights: government

Georgian international Black Sea trade port of Poti pumped 2.7 million tons of different freights in the first six months of 2009 compared to 4.1 million tons in the first six months of 2008, the Georgian government said.

About 400,000 tons of oil fell on loading cargo in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 500,000 tons in 2008. The port mainly pumps oil products transported from Azerbaijan and transit via Azerbaijan from Middle Asia.

About 2.3 million tons fall on dry cargo of total volume of transportation compared to 3.6 million tons in 2008.

A source said that the port of Poti planned to pump 1.5 million tons of oil-loading freights in accordance with initial forecasts in 2009. But volume of pumping, including oil-loading freights is expected to be reduced 20-30 percent in 2009.  

Totally, the port of Poti planned to pump 8 million tons of different freights in 2009.
