Georgia purchased 270,000 tons of oil products in the first quarter of 2021, which is 1,100 tons or 0.4 percent more than in the same period in 2020, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistical Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Oil ranks third among the largest imported goods in Georgia.

The total cost of imported oil was $141.9 million, which is 5.6 percent or $8.4 million less than the cost of oil purchased in the first quarter of 2020.

As for the importing countries, their statistics are distributed as follows (Top 5):

1) Turkmenistan - $32 million, 60,400 tons;
2) Russia - $28 million, 59,400 tons;
3) Romania - $27.4 million, 51,200 tons;
4) Azerbaijan - $20.1 million, 43,000 tons;
5) Bulgaria - $14.4 million, 26,900 tons.

For comparison: the volume of oil imports to Georgia this year exceeds the first quarter of 2019 (260,000 tons), which indicates increased consumption in the country.
