By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

The UN office in Uzbekistan has launched a new Joint Program with a total budget of $1 million aimed at mitigating the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the most vulnerable groups of the population, Trend reports citing Gazeta.uz news agency.

During the implementation of the program, young people in Uzbekistan will be actively consulted on legal, business and psychological issues.

This will be achieved through improving access of informal sector workers to social insurance instruments, monitoring of payments, assessment of efficiency and coverage of social protection, as well as flexible response to changes in the situation in the labor markets for the most vulnerable segments of the population.

According to the UN agencies, vulnerable groups in the world are the most affected by the crisis.

"Young people and women who are unemployed or working in the informal sector have been left without income and social protection. Labor migrants and their families face difficulties in finding livelihoods. The care and treatment burden on women and girls has increased alongside gender-based violence and violence against children," the message said.

The joint program will be implemented under the umbrella of UNDP office in the country. The participating agencies are the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
