The income of tourism agencies and tour operators has increased in Azerbaijan, Trend reports Oct. 11 referring to national State Statistics Committee.
If in 2013, the average annual income of tourism agencies and tour operators amounted to 29.6 million manat ($17.44 million), in 2018, their income increased to 56.43 million manat ($33.262 million).
The number of tourism agencies and tour operators has also increased over the past period from 197 in 2013 374 in 2018.
In 2015, licenses in the field of tourism were canceled in Azerbaijan.
Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency Fuad Nagiyev said that in connection with the liquidation of the licensing system in the tourism sector, it is now quite difficult to control the work of tourism agencies.
Nagiyev spoke about the proposals to create mechanisms for controlling the activities of tourism companies, noting that, first of all, a mechanism for insuring tourism companies should be created. Their activities must meet certain criteria, Nagiyev said.
“Insurance companies must have the necessary funds to cover risks,” Nagiyev added.
