ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 27. Kazakhstan is interested in increasing the transit of goods and the successful operation of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, said Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov at the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Trend reports.

As the PM said, another important area is the creation of a full-scale transport network taking into account the geographical location of the SCO states.

"Kazakhstan takes an active part in the implementation of the global project "One Belt, One Road". This initiative, together with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor, creates all the prerequisites for unlocking the possibilities of the East-West and North-South corridors," he noted.

In order to expand cooperation in the field of transport, Smailov voiced a proposal at the level of relevant ministries to develop new optimal approaches taking into account the international routes available in the region.

"In our opinion, the creation of a Partnership Network of Strategic Ports and Logistics Centers can give additional impetus to this process," he added.

Interregional trade has grown almost 100-fold over more than 20 years. Last year alone, Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with the SCO countries increased by about 20 percent and reached $61 billion.
