Deposits of Uzbeks in local banks of Uzbekistan increase

The volume of population deposits in banks increased by 21.2 percent and amounted to 14.704 trillion soums in 2018, Trend reports via press service of the Central Bank.

The volume of household deposits in banks has more than doubled over the past four years. The largest jump in growth occurred in 2017 (42.2 percent).

Two years ago, Uzbekistan underwent the devaluation of the national currency. As a result, the volume of deposits in foreign currency rose sharply by 183.3 percent and decreased in national currency by 1.2 percent.

Last year, deposits in national currency increased by 38.2 percent and their share enlarged from 53 percent to 61 percent. At the same time, the balance of foreign currency deposits enlarged by 2 percent and their share in the total deposits of population declined from 47 percent to 39 percent.
